WHO released a rapid communication on updated guidance for childhood TB. Updates include diagnosis using gastric aspirate and stool specimens; shorter treatment regimens; all-oral regimens for children with MDR-TB; and decentralized and family-centered, integrated services to increase uptake of preventive treatment. Detailed recommendations will be published in WHO’s Consolidated Guidelines on Tuberculosis, alongside a complementary operational handbook with implementation guidance.
